Karin’s work alternates between quilt making and sculpture but in both art forms she uses methods of stacking, layering and repetition to evoke the element of time or suggest a sense of protection. The layering that creates the final piece can be a metaphorical overlay of patterns and personal stories. Favorite motifs include the house form and the spiral with their psychological connotations of personal growth and natural progression. She believes that the physical act of making art allows a conversation between the conscious self and the elusive unconscious, occasionally bringing to the artist a brilliant moment of clarity.
