Julia Kehew uses centuries-old wet felting techniques to create her sculptural objects, layering clean, combed, and often hand-dyed wool, silk, and alpaca fibers which are then hand felted to a firm surface. She draws on her fine art background as a painter to combine color and texture to her felt, working intuitively to shape three dimensional works of wearable art. She draws inspiration from historical and cultural themes to complete pieces that are deeply personal, but also evoke a sense of recognition and accessibility to others.
